Welcome Message

How do we equip our gifted students to be the “talent” of our society? Employers nowadays not only look for students who can master academic subjects, but also have the “soft skills” to collaborate and contribute to their organisations. However, in the mainstream conventional school setting, students’ affective needs are often neglected. Education practitioners are too caught up in training and maximising students’ cognitive ability. With the advancement in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), human cognitive abilities will increasingly be supplanted by robotics and AI. The remaining competitive advantage that we have is our affective capacity, such as creativity, social skills, leadership skills and ability to love.

The generosity of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust makes our Jockey Club “Gifted in Bloom – Harmony in Heart & Mind” Programme possible. Our project goal in the next three years is to strengthen the concept of affective education into the gifted students’ surroundings which include their learning environment, their homes and their schools. From introducing the fundamental concept of “giftedness” to our junior students, to highlighting the concept of affective importance in their development and to offering advanced learning experiences with a focus on empathy and social responsibility to contribute and make an impact to our society.

In collaboration with our prestigious Gifted Education (GE) partner, Centre for Talented Youth, John Hopkins University (CTY, JHU), we are taking this opportunity to refine and enhance our Affective Education (AE) programmes through a series of evaluations and collaborative workshops; these will ensure the sustainability and the creditability of our AE programmes into the future. A series of teacher training workshops will also be conducted in collaboration with CTY, JHU to further promote AE ideas which can be adopted into the classrooms. We will also be working with our local GE experts such as Program for the Gifted & Talented, Faculty of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in building a collaborative community which has a common goal towards raising AE awareness in the society.

We hope you will find the information on this website useful and look forward to your participation in upcoming programmes and events facilitated by this project.
